Doulabor of Love: 3 hour soup to nuts workshop
This workshop is for pregnant people-called birthers, and their support person. This is an in person worksop at Be In Union Yoga studio in Somerville MA. All participants will be asked to take a rapid COVID test the day of the workshop. Because there is a lot of movement in the workshop, and I will be moving around assisting-online options won't be an option.
In the first hour, we will do an accessible yoga practice using props and birth balls that will weave in breath practices and postures for staying healthy and calm in pregnancy and positions for laboring. Support folks will be both practicing postures and breath work for keeping rhythm for the birther and also putting hands on to relieve discomfort in the hips, and supportive touch to relieve pressure in the neck, hands and feet.
In the second hour, information will be provided about the stages of labor. From pre-labor, when to arrive at the hospital (if applicable), what you need to know about triage, and the labor to birth process. There is a lot to be aware of before you are in a physically and emotionally vulnerable state. Knowledge is power!
In the last hour, information will be presented about postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. Learn who has a predisposition to theses disorders, what is the moist important protective factor and how to recognize when you might need professional support. There will be time for open questions and then a final wrap up.
